The Reading Room

A Room to Read In

Our reading room is a sanctuary of cream walls, tall windows, and afternoon light. Sink into one of our wingback armchairs, wrap yourself in a soft blanket, and browse the shelves of books curated just for on-site reading—no pressure to buy, only permission to linger.

Natural light floods the room from three sides. A small table beside each chair is the perfect perch for your tea, your notebook, your thoughts. The space feels like the best corner of a very well-loved library—unhurried, warm, and entirely yours for as long as you need it.

Day Pass & Membership

Day Pass: £5
All-day access to the reading room, including a pot of tea or filter coffee of your choice. Come for an hour or stay until closing—the chair is yours.

Monthly Membership: £25
Unlimited daily visits, plus one complimentary hot drink each time you come. For regular readers, remote workers, and anyone who's found their favourite armchair, membership pays for itself in three visits.

Both pass types are welcome on weekdays and weekends. Booking ahead is not required for individuals, but groups of four or more are asked to drop us a note via the contact form so we can reserve space.

Tea, Coffee & Light Bites

Reading is better with something warm in your hands.

Tea & Coffee

Loose-leaf tea selection, filter coffee, espresso drinks. £2–£3.50

Pastries & Biscuits

Croissants, fruit scones, shortbread, macarons, and seasonal bakes. £2.50–£4.50

All drinks come in your choice of vessel—china cup or bring your own. We're happy to reheat water for a second pot of tea.

Book Club & Events

Reading alone is bliss. Reading together is a conversation.

Tuesday Evening Book Club

Every Tuesday, 7pm–8:30pm
We gather to discuss the month's read over tea and biscuits. All levels welcome—from casual readers to devoted fans. The book is chosen collectively; we announce the next month's pick at each meeting. Free to attend. Just let us know you're coming via the contact form so we can set aside enough chairs and cake.

Monthly Poetry Reading

Third Friday of each month, 6:30pm–7:30pm
A small, intimate gathering to read aloud—your own work, a favourite poem, something that moved you. No judgment, only listening. Open to all. £3 entry (includes a drink). Arrive a little early to settle into a chair.

Saturday Story Hour for Children

Every Saturday, 10:30am–11:15am
Stories, picture books, and a chance for young readers to explore the shelves and ask questions. Siblings and caregivers welcome. Free. No booking needed—just bring a little one and a cup of something warm.

House Rules (The Gentle Kind)

Just a few notes to keep the room a haven for everyone.

  • Keep voices low. We're here to read, think, and rest. Phone calls are welcome in the hallway.
  • No seat reservations. Armchairs are first-come, first-served. We have enough seats for everyone who's booked or holds a pass.
  • Found a book you love? We offer a 10% discount on any book you've read in the room that day—a little incentive if a book on our shelves becomes your own.
  • Groups of four or more: Drop us a note beforehand so we can make sure there's space and that our kitchen is ready for extra tea orders.
  • Children are always welcome. We ask only that they're supervised and that voices stay gentle.
